Girls Night IN - Raising Money for Canadian Cancer Society a Fun Way

When was the last time you had a really good excuse to get together with the girls?

Girls Night In makes it fun and easy to support an important cause, anytime you get together with the girls. It’s a fundraiser that fits your lifestyle.

Catch up with your girlfriends, throw a theme party, or turn a regular get-together into a Girls Night In. Whatever kind of event you choose, whether it's morning, noon or night, whether you stay in or go out, you’ll be helping fund important information, prevention and support programs for women living with cancer.

Body, Mind & Sampler Night - Girls Night In With Canadian Cancer Society

The Prince Albert Canadian Cancer Society is hosting a Girls Night In party tonight to encourage local women to host similar parties to raise money for Canadian Cancer Society.

The Girls Night In party hosted in PA at the office is called Body and Mind Sampler Night with Belly Dancing, Tai Chi and Yoga. Guests are also encouraged to bring a healthy snack with the recipe.

Breast Friends Cookbooks Raise Money for Cancer Causes

Breast Friends, a group of 10 "seasoned" women from Foam Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada, raise funds for cancer causes from the sale of their own self-published national best-selling cookbooks. You'll discover more than cookbooks as you peruse these very popular, comprehensive grassroots products which are sold across Canada and in many centers in the United States.

Incredibly, in a few short years these unique cookbooks have generated well over $1 million dollars to cancer causes and their good work, with your help, continues.

Women's Cancer Awareness Month - October

4 things a gal ought to know about her health

1. The left is usually larger. No two breasts are exactly the same size.

Whatever your size, you should know what’s normal for you. Many women are alive and well today because their breast cancer was detected and treated early.

2. Cervix means neck in Latin.

Save your neck, save your life. Cervical cancer screening is as simple as a Pap test every 1-3 years.

3. All multicellular animals pass waste.

Skin cancer awareness

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer.

It’s also one of the most preventable.

In 2011, it is estimated that there will be 79,700 new cases of skin cancer diagnosed in Canada.

Children, the environment and cancer

Much of the research on the links between the environment and cancer has focused on exposure in adults. There has been less research looking at the impact of these links early in life – either while the fetus is in the uterus or after a baby has been born.

This information is important because researchers believe that children may be more vulnerable to substances that may increase the risk of cancer, cause birth defects, or interfere with the normal hormonal system in the body. There are several reasons for this:

Canadian Cancer Statistics publication Canadian Cancer Statistics 2011

This annual publication provides health professionals, researchers, policy-makers and interested members of the general public with detailed information regarding incidence, mortality and other measures of cancer burden for the most common types of cancer by age, sex, year and province or territory.

Canadian Cancer Statistics is part of an annual series that began in 1987.

Be Safe in the Sun - Information from Canadian Cancer Society

Being safe in the sun

Nobody wants to stay inside when the sun’s shining. So when you’re outside, using a little SunSense can protect you and your family from getting too much sun.

Plan ahead

If you can, plan your outdoor activities before 11 a.m. or after 4 p.m., when the sun is not at its strongest, or any time of the day when the UV Index is 3 or less.
