By Joel Gasson paNOW Staff

With one week to go, the Saskatchewan Roughriders are busy getting ready for the CFL Draft.

The Riders will be picking fourth overall in said draft, and with the pick, General Manager Brendan Taman admits they want to pick someone who will actually be at the start of training camp come June 1.

"I don't want to be taking a guy that's in the NFL for three years and making millions of dollars," said Taman who met with reporters on Monday. "I think that's a waste of a pick."

Pretty much everyone knew it, and now the CFL is coming down on the Edmonton Eskimos for the Odell Willis signing.

When CFL free agency opened on February 15th, it didn't take long, four minutes actually, for the Eskimos to announce they signed the free agent defensive end. A suspiciously quick period of time for an entire pro-sports contract to come together and be signed, not mention to put together a media release complete with quotes.

Saskatchewan Roughriders release 2013 schedule
By Joel Gasson paNOW Staff

After a slight delay, the CFL schedule has finally been released.

The Roughriders will begin the new season on June 29th on the road against the Edmonton Eskimos, they'll have their home opener the follow week (July 6th) against the Calgary Stampeders.

Don't get too used to seeing the green and white at Mosaic Stadium early on though, as they only play at home three times in July and August combined. To help make up for that quirk, the Riders will actually get to play three of their final four games at home.

UPDATED: Riders sign defensive end Ricky Foley
Joel Gasson paNOW Staff

After about a day of speculation, Ricky Foley is officially a Saskatchewan Roughrider.

All day Monday, rumours and speculation were running rampant that the top Canadian in the Grey Cup was seen in Regina and a deal with Riders was imminent. What makes the move even more interesting is the fact that a week ago, General Manager Brendan Taman told reporters that Foley was an "interesting name" but he likely wasn't going to fit into the fold financially.

Dwight Anderson hopes play will win over fans

Ask just about anyone in Saskatchewan, and they'll give you an opinion on the Roughriders newest defensive back Dwight Anderson.

Odds are it won't be a positive one either.

Like or not, Anderson will be spending this season with the green and white, choosing to sign with the team as a free agent on February 15th.

Anderson is well aware of the lack of love from Rider Nation, and he gets why.

Brendan Taman talks free agency, coaching search
By Joel Gasson paNOW Staff

Believe it or not, it's almost February and that means the CFL's free agency deadline is just around the corner.

Teams have until the 15th to sign their free agents, or else they'll hit the open market. The Riders have done a pretty good job at getting their guys under contract, but names like linebacker Tyron Brackenridge, defensive end Odell Willis (though his situation is different), and receiver Jordan Sisco are just some of the names General Manager Brendan Taman hasn't locked up yet.

By Joel Gasson paNOW Staff

Geroy Simon was officially introduced to the media for the first time Monday, after the Roughriders made the blockbuster trade last week for the CFL's all-time leading receiver.

"Well, how many of you thought we'd see this one day," said team President and CEO Jim Hopson as he handed Simon his official Riders jersey.

While it was a rhetorical question, until last week, the answer probably would have been never. But, now the move is real, Simon is in Saskatchewan.

He was traded by the B.C. Lions. In exchange, the Riders sent import receiver Justin Harper and a third round pick in the 2014 Canadian college draft.

According to sources, that the Roughriders are in serious negotiations with the Lions to acquire the 14-year CFL veteran receiver.

Simon was told by the Lions he could seek a trade because his contract is too expensive for the Lions to bring him back in 2013.
